Where are you located?

We are located at 8 Federal Street, Greenfield, MA, across the street from Greenfield Savings Bank and next door to the Pushkin Gallery. We're less than two blocks from the JWO Transit Center (Amtrak and bus service).

What are your hours?

Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday, 12pm - 6pm. Saturday 11am - 6pm. Sunday 12pm - 3pm. You must wear a mask to shop. Please observe distancing. We offer curbside pickup for online pre-orders and local Greenfield delivery.

What is the process for curbside pickup? 

After you place your online order, you will receive an email or text confirmation when your order is ready to be picked up. Your order will be packaged, labeled, and stowed on the labeled shelf to the right, just inside the store. You MUST wear a mask for pickup.

Where do I park?

There is metered parking a half block away on Federal Street, and also just around the corner on Main Street.  Our closest town parking lots are located here. Greenfield also has a public parking garage, located here -- parking is free between 11am and 2pm Monday - Friday. Greenfield offers free street and lot parking on Saturdays and Sundays.

If you’re arriving by bike, we have a bike rack right in front of our store.  

Do you sell your books online?

Yes, and we are adding more books each week! You can buy online directly from us here. We also have a Bookshop page for books we like that we might not carry in our store.

How do I know if a book is used or new on your website?

We have a limited selection of new titles, and online, they will always have a price point ending in a "9" ($19.99, $15.49, etc.). We also try to mark them as new titles in their product descriptions (in-store they are priced as marked). Our used books' prices end in "0" or "5" ($5.00, $3.75) and are generally less than our new titles. Our value books have prices ending in .97 -- these are never-owned books that may be marked with a slash or dot at the top or bottom of the book's spine.

Do you sell audiobooks?

Do you sell books on consignment?

We sell books from local authors (Greenfield and parts of Franklin County) on consignment. We also support local musicians and artists when possible. Contact us for more information.

Do you host author events?

Events remain suspended in light of COVID-19 guidelines. 

Do you buy books to resell/accept trade-ins?

BOOK-BUYING IS SUSPENDED FOR THE SEASON. We'll resume Feb '25 -- check this space for more details. PLEASE REVIEW OUR GUIDELINES. We accept select titles for cash, credit, or donation. We are mostly interested in science fiction, fantasy, and horror paperbacks. Please note we have limited space for donations and limited budget for cash or credit. PLEASE read our sales and donations policy here.

Appointments are required for more than 10 books per customer per week. Contact us to set up an appointment. You can send us a photo of the books you have to sell or donate in advance for a more streamlined experience.

Do you take book donations/can I drop books off at your store?

DONATIONS ARE SUSPENDED FOR THE SEASON. We'll resume Feb 2025. We have limited space and do not accept walk-in donations for more than 10 books per customer per week. (Please don't leave books outside the store. They will become damaged or will be viewed as litter/blocking the sidewalk.) Donate to the various Little Free Library stations around town, or recycle!

What is your returns policy?

We will credit in-store returns in as-new condition made within 3 days with receipt via original method of purchase (cash, card, store credit). With no receipt, in poor condition, or after 3 days, return requests will be treated as trade-in/buyback for resale (see above), at our discretion. $1 sale books are not eligible for return - final sale only.

I have store credit -- can I use it?

Yes! Purchased gift cards are equivalent to cash and can be used for in-store and online purchases of all titles. Store credit from trade-ins (noted on our business cards with the date of credit issued) can be used for in-store purchases of used books. Trade-in store credit cannot be used to purchase new or value (not used) titles. Contact us with any questions. 

What is your privacy policy?

We do not sell your personal information to anyone. 

Why do you still require masks?

Community care and accessibility are core values. We require masks so our immune-compromised and vulnerable customers can safely shop at their leisure. We require masks because we are a small space with limited ventilation and fewer options for distancing (though we have installed several air cleaners and front windows that now open). We require masks because, as a small, owner-operated store, any illness requires us to close. 

Accommodations: patrons who don't want to mask can contact us online or by phone with a request or order and, if we can obtain the item, we will arrange for online payment and outdoor pickup, shipping, or free Greenfield delivery.

We have given out hundreds of free masks at our expense.

If I loudly complain outside your store, come into your store and complain, or complain on social media, will you change your masking policy?

No. WE WILL NOT DEBATE OUR POLICY AND FUTURE CHANGES ARE AT OUR SOLE DISCRETION.
